FHS 2400 - Marriage and Family Relations
This class has given me many opportunities to reflect on my personal belief system as it applies to the family I grew up in and the type of relationships I hope to have in my future life. I have included two papers from this course. The first paper was entitled “Prototypes” and the second paper was entitled “Nonverbal Communication”.
The first paper on “Prototypes” gave me the opportunity to increase my substantive knowledge about the elements that help to increase strengths in a marriage and a family. It gave me time to use critical thinking skills to look at the characteristics that I would like in the person I choose to be my mate. It was harder than I thought it would be to create a list beyond the normal ideas of wanting someone that you can live happily ever after with. This was a good exercise in being able to make a list and then prioritize them into the most important things I am looking for in a spouse.
The second
paper was on “Nonverbal Communication” and gave me the opportunity to observe
other people and actually see how nonverbal communication is reflected in their
interactions with others. This assignment broadened my prospective on
how much people can communicate without using words or writing to express the
message they are trying to convey. It also helped me to understand how easily it
is that the roll of your eyes or a frown may be misunderstood and cause
people to be upset with each other. This
has been helpful in making me aware of how I communicate with others and makes
me try to understand how I need to respond to others.
