Reflections on Rimsky-Korsakov
I enjoy listening to classical music and so I chose to analyze Capriccio Espangnole, Op. 34 for my music class. Rimsky-Korsakov was a Russian composer who lived during the Romantic period. This piece was especially interesting to me because he used Spanish folk melodies to create this orchestral piece. Tchaikovsky sent a letter to Rimsky-Korsakov telling him that his Spanish Capriccio was a “colossal masterpiece of instrumentation. This class has given me the opportunity to learn more about music and expand my critical thinking skills as I analyzed this piece of music.
