Reflections

This winter has been an interesting time to be taking this class.  I don’t know that I actually have thought as much about the weather as I have in the past few weeks with the snow storms and the freezing rain.  It was unusual to actually experience freezing rain, because I have really only heard about it being more in the central and east part of the states.  This class has made me think about how the clouds actually played an important part in this happening and how the clouds affected the long stretch of cold days.  Our book actually pointed out that a cloud cover actually reduces the daily temperature range and that certainly seemed to happen over the past few weeks.  I have also found it interesting to complete the assignment on temperatures.  I was not aware of the many different types of measuring temperatures.  I have only used the Fahrenheit scale before and it has expanded my thinking skills to actually learn more about how the Celsius and Kelvin scales were developed.   I was also unaware of the UTC time zone and had to take some time to refresh myself on the differences in time zones in the world.  I think this class has helped me to refocus and think about the atmosphere and how it affects our daily life.
