HLAC-Lifelong Wellness Application Paper

1.  What did you learn about “lifelong wellness” from taking this activity class?

I have found that it is very difficult to make changes in your lifestyle.  Our text referred to factors that caused people to decrease the amount of exercise in their lives and find that they are not taking care of their general well being.  One of the events that they mentioned was starting college.  This has been particularly true in my own experience.  I currently work two jobs and have been working on completing classes.  I can find myself overwhelmed and not taking the time to care for my physical, mental, and spiritual well being. This class provided me with some guidelines to look at all of these areas of my life.

2.  How would you apply this information your life?

I think that I need to make sure that I find ways to bring more balance to my life.  It is very easy to become involved in work and school and forget that there are important things in life such as taking time to exercise, eating a balanced diet, and finding activities that give me some time to relax and enjoy activities that I am interested in.

3.  What is your intention to continue to exercise in your life and why?

I am still experimenting with different types of exercise that I enjoy and will continue for a prolonged period of time.  I need to continue to find ways to exercise that will fit into my schedule and that I enjoy enough to be motivated to continue that type of exercise.  I plan to apply the principles of setting goals and finding motivation to make changes in my fitness program.

4.  General ideas for improving this course?

The text gives some very good information and fits well with the course.  The assignments help students to focus on goals and help them to plan changes they need to make.  I don't see the need for major changes.

This class has given me an opportunity to reflect on my own lifestyle.  I realize that I am often caught up in the frantic pace of an everyday life and do not always take time to look at the personal needs of my health.  I feel that I need to improve in many areas, but this class has helped me understand how I should begin to focus on these areas.
